I'm curious to know what you all use for settings when you make AI Cepters to play against. What combinations of settings and decks have you found to be effectively played by the AI?

I can't say I'm hopeful that we'll discover a ridiculously good setup, but it'd be nice to have some AI opponents that'll give you a good run most of the time.

I'll post the best AI I've made so far, and maybe we can make a sort of "community super AI" for all to enjoy. :geek:

Some things I've observed in my AI testing:

1) The AI has no idea whatsoever how to play a Goblin's Lair deck effectively. I don't know if there's any way to make an AI that does, but that would be very handy.

2) The AI makes very poor use of Immediates. If somebody has figured out how to get the AI to use these well, that'd be a really big step forward.

3) The AI seems to lack chain-building sense as compared to other games in the series... any way to improve this?

I've been tooling around with the AI a bunch to up the challenge and here is some things I've found out:

The AI does best with decks that don't require proper color placement (I typically give them spells/creatures that can change terrian color and set their summon to close to Everywhere). Consider having the board covered in rainbow or the grey transform on placement. Don't do neutral unless their set completelly to Everywhere or they'll rarely ever place.

If you want the computer to use almost ANY terrian abilities, set that to max.

The AI is pretty smart about move to attack, giving them Tengus, Sleipnir, Chariot, Telekinesis and anything else you can think of for better movement and max their creature movement AI setting.

Sadly their not great at symbol buying/selling, solo color decks don't buy their own color almost ever. If they have a big spare money deck set their symbol buying to near max and chain to near min, worried about mana to min so they project their money some.

They are pretty good with greed/steal style decks.

Leave the usefulness of spells low or they might never use their spells. If you leave the importance of spells high they'll be stuck with a hand full of crap.

They do pretty well with support-based decks since they don't have to worry about the importance of items.

They do farily well with destructive decks(especially spells). Their annoyingly effective with debility/lunatic light and that type of deck.

Set their friendliness low or they'll cast spell and abilities they need/depend on their ally(unless that is really what you are looking for).

Item Creatures are good for them also.

They are better with offense based decks then defense.

This is all I can think of off the top of my head, when I get my net back next week I'll try to put more tips up while looking at the settings and my better AI's.

Great info, thanks for sharing!

I'm curious to try out your observations and see how they affect the AI Cepters I've been using. :)

Here are the settings and deck I'm using with Nemesis, my best AI. He uses version 1 of Magma (the exact deck I won Saga Bowl II with). Yes, that means he's older than dirt now, 3+ years. That's part of the reason I want to see if we can improve the AI... surely we can do better than the AI that I made when I was still a relative noob.

I'm quite late to this party but this is a topic I wish had been explored more when the game was in it's heyday. I've never seen a card game that allowed you to tweak AI like CS does though some of the settings are a bit cryptic and finding out how well your settings are tuned is a long and tiresome affair.

I've only built 3 and one of them isn't even changed aside from the deck. That one is Easy Card and I used it during my more intense card farming phases. It didn't need an AI since the deck is only composed of items.

Constance and Turta are the other 2. Constance was intended to be a red attack deck while Turta was supposed to play a blue defense oriented deck. I didn't play against them much but I recall they didn't act at all like I wanted so clearly I didn't set them up right. I'd love to find an assortment of AIs that other players have made but I suspect that's not gonna happen.
