As you've probably guessed, I've spent a lot of time since they announced Culdcept 3DS examining the trailer and screenshots posted around the web (see the link thread at the top of this forum). While there isn't a ton of info to be had yet, I've gained a lot of insight already, and turned up quite a few surprises. Here's a run-down of what I see, followed by my thoughts on some parts of the game they haven't shown much/any of yet:

What I see:

Creatures:
Being based on Culdcept II (PlayStation 2 / Dreamcast), I see a whole lot of creatures from the PS2/DC game, including many that didn't make it into Culdcept Saga: Son Ascetic, Cornfolk, Vodyanoi, Valkyria, Merfolk, Gnome, Will-o'-the-Wisp, Larvae, Ninja, Green Mold, Shell Creeper, Leviathan, Gooba Queen, Hurricane, Chonchon, Golden Totem, and Dragon.

I've also spotted some creatures from Culdcept Saga in it: Tengu and Aspidochelone.

Most interestingly, I've spotted a few creatures that I haven't seen in any other Culdcept game:
- Screenshot #2 shows an ST:50 HP:20 G:80+R flying Fire squid (!!) that can't use Tools or Scrolls, but that appears to have a Valkyria-like Upon Victory ST-boosting ability.
- This screenshot and the trailer show a circular Air snake (very similar to the mythical Ouroboros), and I'm very curious to see what its ability(ies) are!
- This screenshot shows an odd troll (or maybe hill giant)-like Air creature surviving a hit from a Colossus without using an item! Pretty impressive.

They've also done some stat-tweaking:
- Raksas now costs 80G with no req, instead of 70G + an Earth req.
- Giant Amoeba has lost its frustrating Armor limit, but now costs 60G (10G more than in PS2/DC and Saga)

Items:
Not much shown here, only a few items we know from the PS2/DC game: Water Shield, Chain Mail, Petrify Stone.

Spells:
Same as the items, just PS2/DC spells shown: Peace and Chaos Panic (at least, I think that's the animation in screenshot #6)

Artwork/Animation:
OmiyaSoft's visual designers have obviously been working hard. Many, many things have changed, and overall the changes look like a pretty big improvement to me. Here's some of what I notice:
- Totally redrawn Story character artwork and player avatars
- New and more lively battle animations
- Some existing creature cards redrawn (I noticed Nymph and Leviathan, and there are probably many more)
- Much better-looking world map, paths, and points on the world map

Maps:
The trailer and screenshots didn't show a lot in this area, but I did spot Dunnan, Malthessburg, Kazatega, and Mt. Atla from the PS2/DC game.

Music:
Hard to read anything into what was played during the trailer, but it sounded a lot like the PS2/DC's music, tweaked a bit.

What I'm thinking (and/or predicting):

1) Nintendo 3DS cartridges can apparently be a lot larger than Nintendo DS/DSi cartridges (I know of at least one 3DS game already out that is a 512MB cartridge), so they'll probably able to cram virtually all of the PS2/DC game in there (hopefully including all 40 maps!) and much more.

2) The online play for Culdcept DS worked really well (arguably better than Saga's, and definitely much more stable), so they'll probably keep its overall structure and enhance it. This means that they'll probably also keep the DS's emote-chat system, which enabled good communication across language barriers. Ranked play on the DS actually meant something (where Saga's leaderboards are a joke), so they'll probably keep that setup as well. Playing vs. friends will probably be handled via Friend Codes, but since I have no 3DS yet, I could be way off on that.

3) The 3DS has an SD card slot and comes with a 2GB SD card. I'm not sure if the system puts the game saves to that card, but if it does, conceivably we could be trading game saves here on Culdcept Central.

4) The SD card slot also means that Culdcept 3DS will probably have at least as much DLC as Culdcept DS did, if not more. Here's hoping that it stays free as well.

5) I cannot wait to see if/how Culdcept 3DS takes advantage of the system's 3D capabilities. Will it look similar to the scene in Star Wars where R2D2 plays against Chewbacca? Or maybe closer to how Paper Mario looks? No telling, but I bet it'll look pretty cool in any event!

6) Finally, the big question. (The one we all want to know). Will it come here? Culdcept PS2 and Culdcept Saga did; the rest didn't. I think it will come here, and here's why:

Nintendo themselves are publishing Culdcept 3DS. You've probably heard that the 3DS isn't doing nearly as well in the marketplace here in the West as expected. It also doesn't have nearly enough games, despite being out nearly 6 months now. Nintendo wants the 3DS to be a success; Culdcept will help that. A lot. Also, Nintendo stands to profit on both fronts as the system's manufacturer and as game's publisher. It seems almost a no-brainer to me that they'd bring it here, but I was wrong about Culdcept DS. :(

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this as well. I'm sure there's some cool stuff I missed, and we all want to know what you think about this HUGE announcement!

So... weigh in on it already! :D

Mad Maxx and I were talking in the chat and I realized I overlooked something pretty big... Mothman is in Culdcept 3DS (see screenshot #6)! Mothman is NOT in Culdcept PS2/DC, so I'm surprised to see it included again. It makes me wonder if they'll keep Bandit Glove in the game or not. Goblin's Lair + Mothman + Bandit Glove = massive crime wave.

don't forget Demonic Trade (if it is in the game)

Excellent analysis

I've noticed another ability: "雪辱". It's showed on screenshot #2 and Raksas.
The word meaning may be "revenge; vindication of honor"
The format of the ability is just like "Instant Death[condition]"

Another change(in trailer):
Dragon (Fire Creature) has "First Attack" ability.

Very interesting! I wonder if that "revenge" ability works like Culdcept Saga's Angry Mask?

Thanks a bunch for translating these!

Another discovery:
Raksas ability now: when "revenge" takes effect, you rob opponent cepter's 30% symbols which element he/she owns most

former ability in PS2: when you destroy opponent creature, opponent cepter loses 30% symbols which element he/she owns most

I haven't played saga much, what's the ability of Angry Mask?

Since creatures have "revenge" don't have many MHP, so I guess it is:
After battle, when your cepter rank is lower than opponent cepter rank, it happens. (Maybe we can all have a guess and wait for the truth lol )

Angry Mask (S)(Tool)
G:10
Battle End: Deals amount of damage received during battle to opponent's base HP.

No clue if this is how "revenge" will work, but if it is, and they put Angry Mask in Culdcept 3DS also, that could be pretty neat.

Summary:
flying Fire squid : Revenge[Destroy opponent]; When destroys opponent, ST+10
Raksas: Revenge[Rob opponent cepter's 30% symbols of most element]

The same points:
1. Both have great effects, which can reverse a game
- flying Fire squid, can take a level 5 territory!
- Raksas, can take 600G of 2000G symbol ! (Which means 1200G difference)
2. Two creatures both have low MHP

I expect there will be more creatures with Revenge ability to make games more exciting untill the very last round even if cepter is ranked 3rd or 4th

Will buy the second it comes out if they do decide to bring it over. Hopefully someone like XSeed/Atlus/Aksys will bother with it since I really doubt Nintendo would.

I'm digging the nerf that happened to Tengu. Now he's a 20/40 instead of a 40/40 and I think it says he has a different cost now. Good. That guy was a kill at all costs card before with his ability to chase people and beast them. He's still good, but now he takes more strategy to use and seems more balanced to me with his threats.

Now that the card list is really starting to take shape, I thought I'd take a look through the various additions and changes and ponder how they'll affect game strategy. Overall, I really like what OmiyaSoft is doing with the card changes. They appear to be examining every single one of the cards from the PS2/DC game and refining them as needed. I've always been impressed by OmiyaSoft's attention to detail, and I feel like they've taken the 3DS game to a new level. :)

Here are some of my observations:

Cleric (S) Neutral
ST:10 HP:30 MHP:30 G:50
Support / Instant Death: 100% against Neutral creatures.
The fact that she now kills her own kind ALL of the time (her ability was 80% before) means Cleric is an essential inclusion in any Support and/or Neutral deck. We're not sure if Goblin's Lair will be in 3DS, but if it is, Cleric is even more valuable (especially since Mothman is back). On the flip side, Neutral deck players will need to include many more Neutralize items to counter this.

Metal Bug (?) Neutral
ST:20 HP:40 MHP:40 G:40
Territory (80G): Destroys target creature, then is destroyed itself.
All-element Banishing Ray in a can. Untargetable creatures and Land Protection are going to get a lot of love in Culdcept 3DS. So will Raise Dead.

Boggart (N) Fire
ST:10 HP:30 MHP:30 G:40
Item Limit: Armor
Claims double the standard toll value. Returns to user's hand if destroyed by spell or territory ability.
Boggart is unchanged, but Greed no longer is HP-10 in battle. They stack. Be afraid. :o

General Kang (R) Fire
ST:30 HP:40 MHP:40 G:90+R
Item Limit: Cannot use tools
Attacks First / In Battle: ST+ (# of MHP>=50 creatures in play x5)
If Sculpture is in Culdcept 3DS (very possible; it was in PS2/DC), we may see a sharp increase in the usage of a deck type rarely used now: the Fire+Air deck. General Kang and Mothman both benefit greatly from a map full of Statues.

Apsara (R) Water
ST:20 HP:40 MHP:40 G:70+B
Item Limit: Weapons Tools
Neutralizes: All non-scroll attacks when defending a territory that is level 3 or higher.
Aspidochelone (S) Water
ST:30 HP:40 MHP:40 G:90
Land Limit: Earth
Item Limit: Scrolls
In Battle: ST & HP+ (round number).
Fungonoid (N) Water
ST:30 HP:40 MHP:40 G:60
Item Limit: Scrolls
Battle End: MHP+10 (up to a maximum of 100). / Regenerates
As if Water needed any more help on defense.

Earth is a bit of an unknown quantity strategy-wise right now. Spudfolk might be in the game, which would make a Gooba Queen/Coati/Mudman strategy even more viable than it already is. There's also 1 new Earth Support creature (Jackalope) and at least 2 unknown new Earth creatures, so it's anyone's guess right now what wild Earth strategies people will come up with.

Ouroboros (R) Air
ST:20 HP:20 MHP:20 G:60+Y+[]
Item Limit: Tools Scrolls
Upon Defeat: Resurrects when user has 4 territories or less.
Aside from possibly making Basalt Idol all the rage, I'm not sure what strategy might arise from this new creature. It's extremely difficult to defeat in battle early in a match, but it's fairly useless after that. Any ideas?

Tengu (R) Air
ST:20 HP:40 MHP:40 G:70+Y
Attacks First / Scroll Critical Hit / Can move to any opponent-owned land in the area.
Yes, they nerfed Tengu... but they also made him cheaper and kept his Scroll Critical Hit. They kept Ninja's, too. Oh boy.

Mind Ripper (S) Weapon
G:40
ST+40 / Revenge: Destroys a card at random from two opposing Cepters' hands.
I love this card. It's Battle Axe with an attitude problem. Assuming Mind Ripper's Revenge ability stacks with a creature's Revenge ability (and it should, given how things currently work), this thing is just begging to be used with Ixtl and Simulacrum. 270G hit to your opponent AND his creature dies AND 2 opponents lose cards. That is just rotten!

Power Bracelet (?) Tool
G:90
ST= (STx2) / HP= (MHPx2)
Any creature that can't use Weapons now has a viable alternative. Gotta love the balance in this game.

Capture/Theft (S) Flash
G:80
User chooses an item/spell card from target enemy Cepter's hand and steals it.
The cards in your hand aren't nearly as safe as they were in PS2/DC. Plan accordingly.

Sink/Upheaval/Weathering/Wild Growth (R) Flash
G:150
Transforms target territory into a Water/Fire/Air/Earth land.
Culdcept DS introduced a limitation to these four spells: You can't use them on level 4 and 5 lands. Given that Tengu is in Culdcept 3DS, I have a feeling we'll see that limitation here as well. So, um... Comet first?

I am also liking what they have done so far to balance the cards. I will definitely be adding Greed to some of my books now. Not only did it lose the -10HP thing it also added draw a card! I am also thinking about making a book based around Tyranny if cards like Temperance and Shrink are in this one too. I am surprised that Decoy is back. He is considered too powerful by many, maybe they nerfed him somehow. Other cards that I would be surprised to see return are Gremlin Amulet/Talisman(especially after the Hand got nerfed) and Evil Blast.
Aim for the castle.
