It's that time of year again! Blind League Season 4!!!

Rules

We use the same scoring/time limit/sudden death/land rules as for standard matches. TG is 7000. 60 sec. time limit. Sudden death off. Random lands. In addition, we play on a random map chosen at the moment you create the match. (To get a random map, you have to create your online match as a "custom" match and make it random.)

For blind matches, you don't create your decks. Instead, you chose a type of deck (G/R, B/Y, Neutral or multicolored), and the computer gives you cards at random. Once you've chosen your deck type, you're locked in with what the computer gives you. (For strategic purposes, you can view your deck from the pregame lobby by selecting "View Book" once you've chosen a deck type.)

The blind league will be set up as a double-elimination tournament. Lose twice and you're out.

Opponents will be determined randomly, via Random.org.

Players:
Andyman (2-1)
Dirk Dorkelson (3-0)
Derceto7 (1-1)
YO WHAT IS THIS (2-1)

Eliminated:
Mad Maxx (1-2)
Otterbee (0-2)
Hyosetsu (0-2)
Jasoya (1-1) *Conceded*
ZZimonick (1-2) Inactivity
CaptSaturnalia (1-2) Inactivity

Round 1

CaptSaturnalia VS. ZZimonick
Hyosetsu VS Andyman
Derceto7 VS YO WHAT IS THIS
Jasoya VS Otterbee
Dirk Dorkelson VS IVIad IVIaxx

Round 2

Andyman vs. Jasoya
Dirk Dorkelson vs. Derceto7
ZZiminock vs. Madd Maxx
Hyosetsu vs. CaptSaturnalia
Otterbee vs. YO WHAT IS THIS

Round 3

Andyman vs. Dirk Dorkelson
Derceto7 vs. Jasoya
ZZiminock vs. CaptSaturnalia
Madd Maxx vs. YO WHAT IS THIS

Round 4
YO WHAT IS THIS vs. Dirk Dorkelson
Andyman vs. Derceto7

ZZiminock and CaptSaturnalia eliminated due to inactivity.

Jasoya Conceded last round.

I have won my match against Otterbee 7562 to 4284 we played on Omengald by random map selection. It was interesting and fun to see two water decks fight each other to the bitter end. though his Lightning Dragon proved difficult to deal with as I was trying my best to keep luckly Turn to the Wall saved me the first time around and Fortress kept him busy. The match overall was pretty much who could out run who in G as we never landed on any territories larger than level 2 and I managed to maintain control over the foot race for the whole match. Good game Otterbee and good luck to you in your next match.

Thanks Jasoya for the match! :) Being a noob to the leagues, I figured I had my work cut out for me here. Every time I thought I was gaining ground on Jasoya, he always seemed to get two steps ahead. I thought I was poised to cause some problems for him with my Lightning Dragon strategically placed for maximum use, but his Wall Transform really caused me some problems. I was able to get him back on the board, but he managed to use his Tower for 10dmg, and then even pulled a Zap AND Magic Bolt back to back! He was poised to kill my Lightning Dragon outright on his turn...but I managed to get lucky (or Jasoya was unlucky?) and only rolled a 1 to put him one shy of his Tower, which could have dealt the killing blow. I was able to get to him on my next turn (thank goodness) and do a Creature Exchange, but it prevented me from causing more problems for him.

Alas, his use of symbols and a Spectre on a quickly leveled up territory proved to be my undoing. :(

It was a great match and lots of fun! I learned a lot and am definitely looking forward to my next one!

Otterbee

[P.S. I'm out on vacation until 4/17 and won't be able to carry out my next match until 4/19 or so. I hope that's ok!]

I'm going to have to pull out of participating. Real life has hit me hard with extended hours at work an a lot of other things. I will still be able to moniter this League and set up matches, but participating is beyond my ability at the moment.

Swapping CaptZat with myself.

Sorry guys.

CaptZat's gamertag is CaptSaturnalia, so I changed that in the initial posting so that people'd be able to find him. Also changed Otterbee and IVIad IVIaxx so that their league handles matched their gamertags.

I beat IVIad IVIaxx in our matchup on Belizalberg. I forget the final score, but it was probably something like 10K to 5K. This is misleading, though, because of the end of our match.

We were both on a fort with just over 7K, making it a race to the castle to win. We also each had a Necro Scarab, making late-game territory stealing impossible. The only difference was that when I hit the fort, I leveled up a land four spaces in front of us to Level 5. IVIaxx rolled a 3, then a 1, and had to pay me a ton of G, effectively making the race to the castle a moot point.

Both of us generally played really well and didn't make any huge mistakes. I was helped out a bit because my deck included an Assassin, which I used to pick off a couple of IVIaxx's larger creatures. He didn't lose any land over it, but it was useful just to get them off the board. I got out to an early 1K or so lead, but IVIaxx drew Refuge and was generating a pretty healthy amount of gold and slightly outperforming me in the territory/chain-building aspect of things.

Early in the mach, I was able to use a Cherub to force his Brontides back into his hand. That was pretty cool. I don't think I'd ever successfully used a Cherub before.

Good luck with the rest of your matches, IVIaxx.

Yeah - Great Game Dirk! I thought it was going to come down to a race to the castle. Turned out to be a one way trip to bad luck street for me :P

Anyway, if you remember, the one little mistake I made cost me to lose the exact same land where I paid you bigtime. Good Luck to you - watch out for Derceto and the others :O

Hyosetsu and I just played our blind match, and I managed to come away with the win. As luck would have it, the random map was Basisk (my home map in Saga Bowl IX), and some really unlucky die rolls for Hyosetsu hurt his cause big-time.

Thanks for the match, Hyosetsu, and good luck in the rest of your matches!

That's true, but I felt like I made a mistake in not using a defensive item in the battle where you took that territory. I had one in my hand but saved it, without thinking about how you could potentially run roughshod all over my territories with Chimera if I wasn't careful.

CaptSaturnalia posted above that he's out of town until Monday.

You subbed him in to replace you, but then he had to go out of town for work the next day. He's back in town on Monday and can play his matches.

CaptSaturnalia and I managed to find some time for our match in between sporting events. The score was:

ZZimonick (aka Lucifer Jonez) - 8046
CaptSaturnalia - 3777

We had a good time, although the Canucks are still better than the Blackhawks.

Thank you guys for getting your match in. It's been a very rough month for me and I apologize for the sudden changes in the schedule.

YO and Derceto, you have one more week to finish your match. I will be handing out losses otherwise.

Round 2 is posted, deadline is July 1st.

Did you mean June 1st? Or do you typically give two months for the second round on these things?

I'm giving two months this time because I'll be on vacation in Oregon and TDY for large portions of May and June. I should still have computer access and the ability to update the board, but in the event that I don't, I want to have my bases covered just in case all of you finish your matches and have to wait on me to show up again.

I always highly encourage getting matches done as quickly as possible so we can progress the tournament, though.

YO and I played the most epic match I think I've ever played. Every roll seemed to be a pivotal moment -- and I think we had 3 "rushes to the castle" only to end up for naught when land possession was removed. We played on Santana Village and YO got off to a quick start holding down many many lands... Both of us picked R/G and his Helltic/Hardrock dragon were a scary force. He got the Helltic out quick but I was able to squash him with a salamander and control the Green lands to keep the dragon in check.

The square to the right of the tower was the KEY square. YO grabbed it first and leveled it up to lvl 4 and I promptly landed on it 3 straight laps. The 3rd time, however I cockatriced it into a wall, then moved my hive queen (of all people) over and killed it with a battering ram. This proved to be the most important move of the game as the dice continued to LOVE that square and YO ended up hitting it 3 (maybe 4!) times himself.

I thought I was done for when YO took my lvl5 red land (which had already switched hands twice) with a Cerberus + aura blade combo that I JUST missed out on, but somehow I managed to climb back from that hole. I don't know all the details I just know it was THE MOST epic match ever. The graph can show all, which I just had to take a picture of considering the enormity of the craziness that occurred.

GREAT GAME yo, it truly was the most craziest, closest match ever (he ended up 2 squares away from the win).

--oh and I forgot the most important thing: YO was 5 spaces away from hitting the castle, getting the lap bonus and winning when I drew a Word of Recall and forced him to make one more full lap. Who'd have thought Word of Recall on Santana Village would be the difference in the game...

I managed to take the win via a fantastic start on Venice. Great game, Jasoya. Best of luck in your future matches. :)

I am pretty sure I would have had you if I remembered that you gave Brontides that boost to it's MHP then I would have used Assassin Right then and there but sometimes I don't pay close attention to those little details but had my second chance to get it but my dice roll died out on me. But I can't complain to much I played the best I could given the decks we had I should be thankful that I actually had the opportunity to take it since he was standing out there for several rounds. Good game Andyman good luck on your other matches.

I just beat Derceto7 in our second-round match on 360, which went the full 95 rounds. (Thankfully, we're both quick players, so it actually didn't last too long, considering.)

The final score was 5361-5169.

Honestly, I felt like I got lucky. Derceto had stronger creatures and better items. I only had three offensive items: Two Battle Axes and a Battering Ram when Derceto's only defensive creature was a Trample Weed. I didn't even have a Medusa. My defensive items weren't much better, though a couple of Wind Shields were all I needed.

He came out with several heavy-hitters like Aspidochelone, Lightning Dragon and Night Fiend. I kept using Relief to try to hold my one big land next to the castle. I used Hyde to paralyze the Lightning Dragons and help my weaker creatures steal territory. I invaded against Behemoth a few times to destroy cards, which proved helpful. And I turned to Andy's old favorite, Witch, more times than Derceto would've preferred. In the end, it came down to a mad spurt of leveling and racing to the castle. I lucked out on my last die roll.

For his part, Derceto played smartly. He landed on my big land next to the castle a couple of times but had a Sleep scroll in his hands on both occasions. His constant shifting of Lightning Dragons and morphing of Aquahorn/Mistwing kept me on my toes.

Zzimonick / Lucifer Jonez and I played our match tonight on Batuan. I had a rough start landing on his level 3 land early, but I managed to come back and win 9060 to 5010. The key to my win was the high level lands on Yellow near the castle. He was coming around the corner headed to the castle and the score was about 6250 a piece. It was a close game for sure before he stepped on my lvl 4 Frost Beast. Good luck to you Zzimonick in your future matches.

Jonez was a fun guy to play and was looking forward to Jasoya's Card Farming Event :D I forgot to make a plug for him to join the ladders. Good game again Jonez and I hope to play you again soon as you mentioned. :)

Good job guys. I'm glad you're all getting your matches in so quickly.

YO, Capt, Hyosetsu and Otterbee are the only one's left to finish your matches, then we can move onto the next round.

Any updates?
