Sorry for any hurt feelings, but I'm frustrated.
Decided to rant here to avoid muddying up the tournament topic.
I had two good opponents. Punkroc and Bliss. Punkroc and I knocked our matches out the first time we were both online. Bliss either played me or let me know he didn't have time to finish a match, and responded to forum/xbox live messages setting up match times. Props to both.
Uyuyuy72 was fine, but forfeited at the beginning of one match and then dropped out of the tournament to be replaced by Panic. I'm here to play so I even gave Panic back the forfeited win I already had. I signed up for some competitive matches and to have fun.
But I've had nothing like fun from here on out.
I wish XBL had sent message logs, because I'd be interested to know exactly how many times I tried to get matched with my last two opponents, Rhinocero and Panic. Every time I saw them online I tried to set up a match. I even checked occasionally on xbl.com when I wasn't playing. Both opponents have been online a whole lot the last 2 months. Panic had notifications off for a while and didn't respond. Rhinocero responded a couple times to the tune of "not tonight" or "I'm really in to Halo right now" but usually not at all, despite the fact that he's been online almost constantly, especially since Halo came out. The closer it got to the deadline, the longer I'd stay online, hoping that they'd eventually respond.
When I finally got a couple responses, it got worse. Panic told me he was a night owl, so I started staying up even later waiting for him. Then last Wednesday night he finally said sure, we could have a match in 3 hours. That was putting me a little late for my comfort as far as being refreshed for work in the morning, but the deadline was approaching! Well, 2 1/2 hours later I hopped back online and waited for him... for another hour and a half. 4 hours had passed and he hadn't shown back up.
Well, he did it to me again tonight. I gave him plenty of warning by setting up the match almost three hours ahead of time. It was going to be another slightly late night, but he's not going to be here after Wednesday, so I had to get him in since he was willing. 10 minutes before the appointed time I created a game and told him to let me know when he was going to be ready for the invite. He was playing the new Guitar Hero game and asked me for 6 more songs. HELL! I figured that almost 3 hours warning would be enough time to say "crap, match in 30 minutes, I should make sure that I can play at that time!" But I did some quick math... 6 songs at 4 - 5 minutes each plus time in between songs means around 30 minutes. That put it at the extreme edge of what I could do, but didn't want to cheat him out of wins if he was willing to play.
Here it is, an hour after the scheduled match time, and I'm giving up. He moved on from the set he was doing and started a new set (I can see it in his status).
Not responding is one thing. Keeping me occupied waiting for you when I could be doing other things is a whole other story.
