 Season 7 signup
Please use this thread to sign up for play in Season 7. When signing up, please choose a home map. Bear in mind that I'd rather not have two players with the same map, so once one is chosen by another player, consider that map off limits. Also, when signing up, PLEASE LIST YOUR GAMERTAG, not your forum ID. I want folks to be able to actually find you on Xbox Live. I will update the end of this post with a list of who's signed up and what map they're picking.
The rules, as currently constituted:
1. The league's players are sorted into groups of four, with each player having a home map. (The players who don't specify maps are listed as alternates and will be added into the mix as folks drop out.)
2. In the first round, each player will play one-on-one matches against each member of his group twice, once on each player's home map, for a total of six matches.
3. The best cepter from each group will advance to a single-elimination tourney. Additionally, second-place players with the best records will advance as wild cards. (The number of wild cards will depend on how many groups there are.) If two or three individuals finish round 1 tied for a playoff spot, a tiebreaker match on a random map selected by Dirk will decide who advances. (If three players finish tied, the tiebreaker game would be a three-player game.) If all four members of a group finish with 3-3 records, they'll play in a mini-tournament to decide their group winner. If all four cepters from a group drop out, I'll select the best cepter that didn't make it to Round 2 from another group as a replacement.
4. After the first round of group play, tournaments will take place on a designated, neutral, map randomly assigned by Dirk. (Both symbol and nonsymbol maps may be used.) Matchups will be determined at random after each round of the tournament, although teams from the same four-team division can't meet again until the finals.
5. All matches will be played with a TG goal of 7,000, no E cards, random lands and no sudden death. Time and round limits are the defaults (60-second turns, 95 rounds).
6. When posting results from your match, it's fair to talk in general terms ("It was a race to the castle after he landed on my Level 5 land and lost his huge lead.") Refrain from specifics, e.g., "I just didn't have anything that could stop his Hive Workers and Peludas."
7. Please don't drop out. If you do, you won't be allowed to participate in other leagues I'm running. I'll allow exceptions for family emergencies, RROD, etc., but in general, the only way to get back in the mix once you've quit on a league is to serve as a dependable alternate for a season.

I'm gonna sign up for Provedin again. I had it in Season 4, before I really knew how to play on it. Now I'm ready to kick some butt.

 Re: Season 7 signup
Trying to type on this IPod is tedious... I won't be in season 7 short of acquiring better Internet. However, I must warn newcomers. League play is not for the faint of heart. Normally docile players steeped in honor and fairness won't hesitate to destroy you mercilessly with his or her most brutal creations. Don't take it personally. Take your beating and learn. Also, do NOT give up!
Andy can attest to one of the most miraculous comebacks I have ever seen. I had him beat and he proceeded to claw his way back in the very same match, take me out of the play offs and win the season. Also, anybody can win this. Ask Smack Dave who sealed my chances of going to the finals and won it all as a complete unknown!
So, show us us what you got!

 Re: Season 7 signup
Season 7 will probably kick off when I get enough players. I need at least 16 (four groups of four) to really make things work as designed, but 24 or so like we had last time would be ideal. If we don't get that many, I'll probably switch to more of a tournament format, the way we do with the blind leagues.
If I had to guess, I'd say we'd get rolling around the third week of January or so, but that's just a guess, really.
I will need some multiple of four. At some point in the future, I'll designate a cutoff period. If at the end of the cutoff period, there's some number of players not divisible by four, the one to three remainder players will be alternates, filling in for folks who sign up and never play. (Last season, all three alternates got to play.)
Also, Whooh is right: Competition is brutal. Prepare to be destroyed if you're new. I'd suggest playing ladder matches for practice.

 Re: Season 7 signup
I should add here that though a new player may get destroyed initially... they'll also learn far faster by playing in the league than by any other means in this game. If you want to improve your game, this is the place. It is great, great fun - win or lose. If nothing else, you will see deck designs that will just blow your mind.

 Re: Season 7 signup
Yes, this is my first time playing a four way brawl and in a hard core tournament like this. I know I will not have a single territory standing for than 5 rounds (in most cases I would think, and I only have decks made for individual play (though some have potential). But I will learn more if I jump in the fray and get hands-on experiance. To be able to attain this experiance and to do battle with some of the best Culcept players is something I have been wanting to do since Culcept PS2. I'm in.

To clarify, the league is 1-vs-1. mattinvegas1 used to have 4-way FFA weekend tourneys often, though I was never able to get in on them. Also, from what I saw in our ladder match last night, as well as our previous ladder match, you're going to do just fine.

 Re: Season 7 signup
Phew, took me a bit to figure out how to register. I bought Culdcept Saga for 12$ at ebgames about 3 days ago, and have had my eye on it for a long time. Anyways, consider me easy pickings. This will be a learning experience for me but I'll show up.
Gamertag: Mighty Moco Home Map: I'm guessing all maps are fair game, I'll update this soon.
I'm currently at the first 3 player free for all in the game, and got my goblin handed to me the 1st time. I'm about to give it another shot but I just have a few questions. Cepter items are just cosmetic right? Do you guys reccomend me playing to at least a certain level before I consider jumping into a league?
Thanks and looking forward to it! I was worried that this game wouldn't have a community, its great that it does!

 Re: Season 7 signup
Apologies for the inconvenience on the registration process; it's necessary to avoid having everyone register twice (once on the site, once on the forum). Welcome to the community! If you have any questions, feel free to ask; we're always happy to help!

Thanks and looking forward to it! I was worried that this game wouldn't have a community, its great that it does! I highly recommend being able to wipe out AIs without trying before you try playing league. Try a few real games with people (I think I might be a good midpoint between casual and competitive) and see the difference. I'll take you on, either send me a buddy request (GT DeathMinnow) or message me here. I wouldn't stand a chance in the leagues (speaking of I'd love to participate but I don't foresee being available enough,) and I'd like to consider myself pretty good.

The league doesn't require much time really. This season promises to be the most flexible yet, with Dirk's proposed changes. I can't wait.

AI = AI, u wont learn anything by beating it. i had this game on day 1 and still havnt beaten the game because frankly its dull and boring. the only reason i ever played single player was so i could host the other maps online... add me to XBL, if you see me online playing a diff game send me a message and ill definently put culdcept games before any others. also i hope you have started farming cards so that you can build what ever deck comes to mind.

I'm sorry, but if you can't wipe out computers, you have no chance against a human player. Please don't order people to disregard other people's advice. Do you honestly think anyone in these forums thinks AI are difficult? A logical step is to practice the basics of card combos on AI, where they'll likely work most of the time, to understand what you're trying to accomplish. The step after that is learning how to deal with people trying to thwart your ideas. How's he going to get cards without practicing on the AI anyway? Simply card farming all the cards without getting used to them at a slower pace is probably a recipe for failure.

 Re: Season 7 signup
well when we play with the new guys we generally, as sort of an unspoken rule, dont take them to the cleaners. we do want them to play again lol. i say go straight online from an enormous amount of personal and 3rd person experience. the new guys will always get a bit of coaching from all the veterans playing with mics. i see it happen everytime there is a new name playing.
anyways, to each their own. just have culdcept fun. i have since feb 5th of ... 07 i do believe.

Wasn't trying to downplay your skills. Just pointing out that people should be wary. Assuming somebody isn't capable only because you have not heard of them can bite you in the butt.

No worries. I didn't take it as a downplay of skills. I took it as an opportunity to talk a little trash to no one in particular.
Now hopefully I will farm up all my cards in time for the season.

I should mention here that we've had 6 Saga Bowls, 2 Blind Leagues, and 1 Alliance League... and 10 different winners. It's anyone's title to grab, folks. Get in on the fun!
