Culdcept DS - Player Decks

(HoF) Mike's (NRY, 20/7/23)

This is my other Culdcept DS online deck. It's also currently undefeated, which is why it's the second inductee into the Culdcept DS Player Decks Hall of Fame. :-)

2 Borgess
4 Decoy
4 Hedgehog
4 Unseen Stalker
2 Pyromancer
4 Mothman

3 Gremlin Amulet
4 Petrify Stone

3 Binding Mist
3 Evil Blast
3 Holy Word X
2 Land Protection
1 Life Stream
4 Permission
3 Weathering
4 Wind of Hope

This is a deck I've always wanted to build in Culdcept Saga, but really can't because Goblin's Lair is so much better than just neutral creatures + Mothman are in that game. It's also not as effective in Culdcept Saga because of Red Cap and Magma/Storm Avatar. In Culdcept DS, though, Mothman is consistently the creature with the highest ST in battle.

How you play it: spam neutral creatures all over the place, starting with an Air land to take care of Mothman's summoning requirement. The neutral creatures are all very cheap, and all very hard to deal with. The more you put on the map, the scarier Mothman becomes. Also, once you put Borgess somewhere relatively safe, scrolls become much less of a concern (and Hedgehog becomes even meaner!). Also, all the neutralize/reflect creatures will pretty much nickel-and-dime your opponents to death. They'll nearly always just pay the toll rather than try to kill your neutralize/reflect creatures.

The items are catch-all counters. Gremlin Amulet ensures that your creatures get to do what they do best, and Petrify Stone serves several purposes: preventing scroll-kills, keeping Mothman from killing itself on a Decoy invasion, and making Hedgehog virtually indestructible in battle.

Pyromancer, Binding Mist, and Evil Blast are all included to get rid of any threats (Decoy and Unseen Stalker are very popular in general, which also happens to make Mothman even more nasty). Also, Weathering does a great job of helping you chain by taking other players' lands, mostly because Mothman can't go on Earth lands - strip away their land bonus, invade, and conquer. :-D

The spells are pretty much self-explanatory. Holy Word X to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Land Protection to keep your high lands from getting nuked by direct damage. Permission to help you get more lap bonuses (though you'll want to use other G spells on linear maps). And, of course, Wind of Hope to keep the deck flowing.

Weaknesses? Mass damage. One Tempest and all of your Decoys and Unseen Stalkers go bye-bye, so if you see even a hint of that, don't level them. You'll mangle just about all other deck types, as it costs more for them to deal with your stuff than it costs you to replace it.

Oh, and you might be wondering, "Why Mike's?" It's named for Mike's Hard Lemonade. It just seemed fitting, with its Neutral+Air and neutralize/reflect theme. Hehehe.
